Greatest Ife! The Police have threatened to jail we your leaders if we proceed to protest tomorrow. They even threatened to teargas we the students! The question is: is this order from our Professor of 'diplomacy', the VC or the FG?

But little did they know that having at inception addressed the outrageous increment with basic democratic virtues such as diplomacy, appeal, lobbying, negotiation,a...mong others, we are more than justified in law, morality or common sense to exercise our fundamental rights of sit-ins, occupying, picketing & protest as ordained by the combined provisions of sections 39 & 40 of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2011 as amended

Accordingly, it is my humble declaration that we remain fearless & cannot be intimidated in this struggle for this is in defense of the right of the children of the poor, the downtrodden to education. Hence, dear Police, I shall prepare for my arrest tomorrow provided you will allow me come with my toothbrush & paste, pocket Bible & Quran & the Autobiography of Martin Luther Jnr.

Great Ife! We shall proceed to occupy Ife metropolis as Congress have decided while we await the outcome of the meeting between the VC & the Ooni-of-Ife said to have been scheduled for tomorrow by the High Chief Adeyeye Adekola Agoro!

We miss the point a lot. We expect police officers whose salaries can barely feed our own pets to be up and doing at dilapidated rat holes called police stations. When they leave their workplaces for the barracks, they stay in some of the most demeaning housing projects you’d see anywhere in the world.

 

We want them to serve and protect with integrity but right from the point they are hired, we take their dignity away from them. We can pretend all we like, but the mess we see in our system is the mess we invested in it.

 

Channels Television got knocks from those who ought to praise it for bringing the state of the Police College Ikeja under public scrutiny. They said it was done to discredit the President, the same way anyone who points out the way to make our country better is said to do it to discredit the President.

OAU students protest tuition hike, block Ilesa-Ife Expressway

Hundreds of commuters and motorists got stuck at the Ipetumodu area on the Ilesa-Ife Expressway on Tuesday as students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State protested against the hike in fees by the management of the university.

 

Undergraduates as well as postgraduate students, led by the President-elect of the Students Union, Mr. Isaac Ibikunle, marched from the campus to the expressway, which links the South West to the North, and barricaded the highway with woods and tyres.

 

They chanted songs and refused to yield to pleas from travellers and motorists who were held down in the ensuing gridlock.

 

Policemen drafted to the scene pleaded with the students to open the highway, but they remained adamant. They stated that those held in the traffic would be educated on the negative effects of the action of the Federal Government in collaboration with the management of the OAU.

British plane sent to search for missing school girls breaks down .. (Opens eyes)

A British surveillance jet which was on its way to Nigeria to help in the search for missing Chibok girls reportedly broke down in Senegal due to unspecified technical problems.

UK Ministry of Defense released a statement explaining this...

"A technical fault which has delayed the Sentinel aircraft on its way to Ghana is being investigated and will be solved as soon as possible. In the meantime the UK military team continues its work on the ground while other surveillance aircraft continue the search for the missing schoolgirls," .

British Prime Minister, David Cameron, announced that Britain would offer Nigeria a surveillance jet to help in the search of the missing girls.

Nigerian Unemployed graduates to receive N19k monthly allowance?

That's what a committee at the on-going National Conference is suggesting...for all unemployed graduates in Nigeria to earn a monthly allowance equivalent to the allowance of members of the National Youth Service Corps, which is N19,800.

Punch reports that the conference’s Committee on Law, Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Reform made the recommendation but it can only fall through if it's accepted by the Federal Government.

A member of the committee said the recommendation was one of the ways the committee members felt that crime could be reduced in the country. He told Punch;

"The recommendation is our own way of finding solutions to the rising wave of crime in the country and to also force the government to do the needful for the increasing number of unemployed graduates in the country. We have done our part and it is left for the delegates to either reject or accept it at plenary.”
I have a feeling FG won't be interested in this. Who thinks it's a good idea?

BRIEF UPDATE ON THE INCREMENT IN FRESHERS' FEES #OAU

Having pledged that ours shall be a constructive union, we consulted various groups, interests, heard from various students' gathering we had conveyed, the leadership of the union opted for negotiation instead of confrontation; as such, we honored a second negotiation yesterday Friday 16th,2014 which started about 5:35pm at floor O. 

In attendance from d student body are the CEC members, leadership of SRC, HEC chairpersons, & for transparency purpose, members of the press & independent observers were also in attendance.

Meanwhile,just as we almost succeeded in getting second concession from d management, the fear of the protesting students & some other reasons made the management postpone d negotiation until further notice.

In the meeting with the ALUMNI ASSOC, the mediating body in this negotiation by 9pm (after d negotiation broke down) it has been agreed upon

1. Negotiation will resume

2. That there should not be any protest pending the negotiation

3. That there won't be payment of the fees until after the negotiation

4. That the president should not call Congress because he has no power to do same until after swearing-in.

This meeting was presided over by Prof Adeyanju, the National secretary of Alumni Ass & two other alumni; the agreement was signed by a representative each of the CEC, SRC, ideological groups & the press at the meeting.

Great Ife, thanks for your support trust this far even despite some orchestrated misinformation. Note that I will lead the leadership of the union to some halls to give full account of this increment so far IN THE MORNING TODAY... Hope u still remember that what we promised is intellectual struggle, not physical. This battle will b won with no or little confrontation! LA LUCHA SIGUE!
