Vice President President Yemi Osinbajo says that it is madness for people in positions like President Buhari and himself to come into office and look for money to loot.

A statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, quotes Osinbajo as saying this while receiving a delegation of Christian Ministers Welfare Initiative also known as the Pastors’ Forum, Taraba State, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja yesterday.

#Lobatan: Recession: Kemi Adeosun endorses sale of some National assets

Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, over the weekend lent her voice to the call for the sale of some national assets to revive the economy. Adeosun endorsed the sale while speaking to some business editors in Abuja. Leadership quotes her as saying it is better to sell off under-utilized assets than borrow money to revive the economy
‘‘I think there are lots of assets being considered. There are some unused assets that are just lying idle and people have come and said, ‘These things you are not using, can we lease it from you?

$15m: Niger Delta group vows to bomb NNPC Towers in Abuja if Patience Jonathan is arrested

 

A group known as The Niger Delta Peoples Professional Volunteer Force (NDPPVF), have released a statement vowing to bomb the four wings of the NNPC towers in Abuja if former first lady, Patience Jonathan, is arrested over the $15million found in her account.

Spokesman of the group, Parkinson George-Amabo, in the statement released today, said it is not in support of corruption, but against the manner in which the antigraft agaency has carried out its investigation into the foreign currency linked to Mrs Jonathan. ‎The statement in part reads;

Governors pass vote of confidence on Kemi Adeosun, Udoma Udo Udoma, support sale of national assets


The 36 state governors Thursday passed a vote of confidence on Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun and her counterpart at the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma.
According to a statement from the spokesperson of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, the governors passed their votes on the ministers at the monthly National Economic Council meeting which was presided over by Osinbajo at the presidential villa in Abuja.
The Economic Council also supported the sale of some national assets to rescue Nigeria from current economic recession. Read the full statement below:

Buhari has assured potential investors that Nigeria would soon be one of the most attractive places to invest as his administration has embarked on significant economic reforms to realize that goal.

He gave this assurance to a large gathering of political and business leaders from the United States, Africa and other regions of the world at the Second United States-Africa Business Forum in the New York, on Wednesday, organized by the US Department of Commerce and Bloomberg Philanthropies.
He said that the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, will soon come out with wide-ranging business environment reforms on ports, visa-on arrival, improving the speed and efficiency of land titling and business registration. Some fiscal incentives he noted, include, up to 5 years tax holiday for activities classified as “pioneer;” tax-free operations; no restrictions on expatriate quotas in Free Trade Zones; and a low VAT regime of 5 per cent.

 Removing Kemi Adeosun will not get us out of recession- Senator Shehu Sani says

According to Senator Shehu Sani, removing the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, from office will not resolve the current economic recession is currently facing. He said this while speaking on the floor of the Senate as members deliberated on the state of the economy and how it can be resolved. 
In his own submission, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, charged President Buhari to look into his cabinet and make adequate adjustments. More after the cut...

The senate today resumed its plenary after its long recess. Senate President Bukola Saraki, who presided over today's plenary, said the senators cannot afford any more distractions as they have to now focus on how to help rescue the nation from its current economic recession.


According to him, Nigerians are not so interested in who brought us here but how are more interested on how to get out of the current challenges.

We are working hard to address the needs of Internally Displaced Persons in Nigeria - President Buhari

 

President Buhari Monday assured the international community that his administration was already implementing several people-oriented programmes to meet the humanitarian needs of the over two million internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Nigeria.

In a post titled "National Economic Emergency" which he shared on his Facebook wall yesterday, former media aide to former President Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, prevailed on former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to have a rethink and lend her support to the APC-led government towards reviving the economy which is currently in recession.

According to him, issues concerning Nigeria should not be politicized. He also gave support towards the Economic Emergency power President Buhari is asking the National Assembly to give him so he can move speedily towards reviving the economy. Read his post below...

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has attributed the current economic recession in the country to the activities of various militant groups in the Niger Delta region. Osinbajo said this while speaking at the Presidential Quarterly Business Forum at the State House, Abuja yesterday September 19th.

In a new article he wrote for the back page of The Sun, Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, revealed that his income has been cut by one third since he came into office. He stated that as people complain of hunger in the land, he and others who have come to truly serve in government also face hunger as well and are not insulated from what is happening in the country. 

On the current economic recession, Adesina noted that many great countries have come out of recessions and have bounced to become great economic powers. He said Nigeria would do same as well as the government is working hard to get its economic policies right. Read his piece after the cut

Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, says that the ‎activity of the advocacy group, Bring Back Our Girls, is becoming worrisome and is a threat to public peace and order.

Idris said this against the backdrop of the recent standoff the group has had with security operatives during their March to the presidential villa in Abuja.

The IGP bared his mind when the National President of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Gloria Shoda and other members of the Council executive paid him a visit at his office in Abuja.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, made this assertion today while receiving a delegation of the Northern States Pentecostal Bishops Forum in his office at the Presidential Villa, assuring however that even though the times are hard today, “there is great hope that this country will prosper.”

According to him, “this country has been badly governed. We are dealing for instance with the embezzlement of funds to the tune of $15B in one sector alone."

#YouSay??: It is immoral to condemn Buhari over current economic recession- APC tells PDP

Ruling party, APC, says it is immoral of the opposition party, PDP, to condemn President Buhari for the current economic recession in Nigeria. The party said this in reaction to a statement made by the PDP that President Buhari should resign from office following the report from the National Bureau of Statistics, that Nigeria is currently in economic recession.

In a statement signed by its National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni, APC said PDP should apologize to Nigerians for mismanaging our resources and failing to save for the rainy day. The statement reads in parts;

The finance minister was blasted for the tweet, which she has now denied tweeting. Adeosun made the denial in a statement released by her Special Assistant on Media, Festus Akanbi. #Wawu: FG expects better economic outlook for second half of 2016

*2nd quarter figures indicate further growth in Agric, solid mineral sectors: *Better than IMF estimates *Reveals highest increase in share of investment in GDP since 2010.
The just released GDP figures for the 2016 second quarter by the National Bureau of Statistics while confirming a temporary decline, has also indicated an hopeful expectation in the country's economic trajectory.
Besides the growth recorded in the agriculture and solid mineral sectors, the Nigerian economy in response to the policies of the Buhari presidency is also doing better than what the IMF had estimated with clear indications that the second half of the year would be even much better.
