He Did it to me!! Please Advise!

On a bright hot Thursday afternoon after my final exam, I got home so drained and sweaty. No thanks to the friends whom I spent some of my Tfare with to celebrate our last paper. So we had to trek some distance to get home. All I wanted was to have a cold long shower.

Getting home to meet my dad was surprising and uncool because I thought to myself “Ooo this man is gonna disturb my planned long afternoon sleep today”. I greeted him smiling “Good afternoon dad, why are you home so early today?” He smiled back and replied “I just decided to come home to rest” I hurriedly said “okay” and left his presence so he won’t send me to do anything. All I wanted was to take my bath and sleep.

#CareerPlanning: Action Plan for each year at university

Second Year
This is a vital year for developing career plans and for testing them out through work experience to make sure that they are right for you. If you spend time on this during your second year it will save you a lot of work during your final year.
  • KEEP DEVELOPING YOUR SKILLS- Students who get involved in clubs and societies or hold posts within the Students Union have lots of opportunities to use communication, negotiating and similar skills which are valuable ammunition for your CV. This will also help you to complete competency-based application forms for internships and graduate jobs.
  • RESEARCH YOUR CAREER OPTIONS. This web site is a good starting point for this espcially our I Want to Work in ... pages. Also use www.prospects.ac.uk
  • ATTEND CAREERS AND EMPLOYABILITY SERVICE EVENTS. We put on a variety of talks each term and these are a good way of starting your career planning.
  • WORK HARD TO GET A GOOD DEGREE. Many large organisations require an Upper Second Class Honors degree (2:1) which normally equates to about a 60% overall mark, so it pays you to work hard academically to try to achieve this. If you are applying for jobs during your final year, employers will normally ask for a predicted degree class – the results of your second-year exams and assessments will be used as evidence to support your prediction.

Employability Skills - Skills You Need for a Job

For many people today, a career for life is no longer an option. Most people will hold jobs with a variety of employers and move across different employment sectors through their working life.
We all need to be flexible in our working patterns and be prepared to change jobs and/or sectors if we believe there are better opportunities elsewhere.
In order to be flexible we need a set of 'transferable skills' – skills that are not specific to one particular career path but are generic across all employment sectors.

The Job Skills Employers are Looking For

Employers are often looking for skills that go beyond qualifications and experience.
While your education and experience may make you eligible to apply for a job, to be successful in the role you will need to exhibit a mix of skills: ‘employability skills’.  This means that the specialist, technical skills associated with different roles may be less important than the 'soft skills' that can be transferred between different jobs and different employment sectors.
For employers, getting the right people means identifying people with the right skills and qualities to fulfil the role and contribute to the organisation's success.  Candidates may have the qualifications and 'hard skills' needed to be able to manage the job role but, without a well-honed set of 'soft skills', employers are less inclined to hire.

What are Employability Skills?

ToYouBible - A Recently Launched Bible App for Mobile Devices Personalizes Bible Passages with the User's Name and Gender by a Nigerian

A new Bible app, ToYouBible, is revolutionizing the way Bible readers experience the Bible. ToYouBible instantly populates thousands of applicable Bible passages with the user's name and also customizes them to read according to the user's gender. A version of the app also allows the user to input their spouse's name, if married, and then instantly customizes all relevant biblical passages on marriage with both spouses' names. For instance, John 3:16 for a woman named Omobolanle would read this way:

"For God so loved Omobolanle, that he gave his one and only Son, that Omobolanle believing in him should not perish, but have eternal life."

The Stakeholders that make the DIFFERENCE in Business. Must read for all Entrepreneurs!

I have always wondered why so many companies in America, Europe grow and outlive their owner or founder. I have however discovered that this is as a result of the fact that they thought about solutions, serving and adding values. I am writing as an employee in a limited company (one man business). A company by one man, acting as the human resource personnel, managing director and the only decision maker- we call them entrepreneurs. Our entrepreneurs employ the most qualified and later frustrate them to leave while the business still remains on the same level. The questions that come to mind are:  “What is wrong?” “Why is the business not moving forward or growing and why are my clients leaving?” “Why is our turnover going down?” Unfortunately, many of these employers only think about money! Money!! Money!!! And not the values they are offering or the employees working things out for them.

Just in a year I worked in two limited companies and I was fired in both companies, not because I was not doing well but they just could not pay me anymore. The business was going down and the reasons were not far-fetched - Employer-Employee engagement.  “Clients do not come first, Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients”- Richard Branson.

‘Tinubu, Fashola, Ambode and Nigeria’ – article by mecurial Segun Adeniyi

Lagos
Sometime in 2006, (I cannot recollect the exact date or month), some selected editors were invited to a suite in Eko Holiday Inn to have a parley with the then Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. As the then editor of THISDAY, I was also invited. Even though the reason for the invitation was not stated by Tinubu’s Information and Strategy Commissioner, Mr Oladele Alake, there were hints that the governor wanted to use the occasion to confirm the rumour already gaining grounds that he had endorsed his relatively unknown Chief of Staff, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, as the candidate of his party (Action Congress) for the gubernatorial election in the state and by implication, as his likely successor.
I will never forget what transpired at that intemperate meeting with Tinubu because it ended on a rather unpleasant note, with him declaring, before he left in anger: “Gentlemen, in this game, I am the donkey everybody wants to ride (he actually used an obscene word I would rather not repeat here) and I will determine who rides me.”

Water scarcity in Lagos will soon be resolved- Ambode Responds to the Open Letter

Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode says the water scarcity being experienced by residents in the state will soon become a thing of the past as a response to an open letter yesterday.

Open Letter to Governor Ambode | @AkinwunmiAmbode @Omojuwa @lindaikeji

Dear Mr. Governor,

I trust you are fine and everything is great with you. I am not about to stress you so much with a lengthy letter though I have a lot to write, however I will go straight to the point. First of all I am a Nigerian and resident in Lagos; I supported and voted for you (even though I was partially indifferent as to whether you or Jimi Agbaje should win). I voted for you based on the fact that you were the candidate of the APC party and I assumed that you would continue and strengthen the good work of a great man Babatunde Fashola. I am however surprised with what is going on and that is the reason I am writing this letter to you.

Mr. Governor, you would agree with me that Lagos is one of (if not) the most difficult state to manage and govern in Nigeria. Good! I know you would agree but I suppose you knew this before campaigning.  Yes, you knew and do not tell me someone pushed you into it because it is not impossible for you to say that the legendary leader Tinubu pushed you. You had a lot of time to think over it and decide what you wanted. So I doubt you would say that you are an accidental leader.

Yes sir, it’s about 6 months now since you became governor of Lagos state and a lot has happened most of which are things we are not used to and these things are getting out of hand. Mr. Governor, can you imagine yourself not having water supply in your house for almost 4 weeks and no trace of water coming at all? Of course maybe when you were a kid but right now that is what most Lagosians are facing- No water! I am sorry sir but I would be doing a lot of comparison between yourself and former governor Babatunde Fashola. I heard you guys are not on good terms, I think that is a very bad idea. Anyways, when Fashola was governor we hardly had shortage in water supply, if at all we did; it was not for more than a day. So sir, what is happening in your time? This is a very serious concern. Also the traffic! This is one identity of Lagos, every one outside Lagos knows about this traffic of a thing. Some people are not in Lagos just because of this traffic. Yes, I know we are over populated and we have so many rich people on the road who must drive their cars but really, it was not this much during Fashola’s time. I would like to ask again Sir- “What is happening in your time?” Yes I remember the robbery cases during traffic. I asked myself- where were these guys before now? Please do not tell me they just gave birth to them or they hate you as governor. I am sure some of them voted for you; so what is happening in your time Mr. Governor? You said you were going to buy three more helicopters, really don't know how that can help traffic and security, well maybe for fast response to rescue victims though but we need all these to stop and be sustainable. Let me stop at those few obvious examples so you won’t attack me like you did to the economist magazine claiming that they were judging you so soon and all.

Mr. Governor, thanks for the new BRTs you launched last week at Ikorodu, we appreciate you for that. Although it was Fashola’s work but you saw it necessary to launch, this is a plus for you. I also heard you have been making the civil servants smile due to the early payment of salaries, thumbs up to you on that, please keep it up and don’t let them down. If it is true that you saved N12billion in 4 months, wow!! I am impressed; however what is going to be done with the saved sum?

In conclusion sir before you go attend to some dutiful duties, I would like to beseech you by the mercies of God like Paul would say that you should sit down with Mr. Fashola though he might not have your time, you know he is a 3 in 1 man just because of how he governed Lagos state. It’s important you humble yourself and learn massively from him. It is not brilliancy and certification that is used to govern a state like Lagos, you need vast ideas and a focused mind to take charge- take charge of all agencies, institutions etc, be firm in your decisions and make your people follow it to details. You are lucky the tribunal didn’t fault your election, I trust my Lagos people with all what they have experienced in this short time of your governance, if there was a rerun they would have elected Jimi Agbaje, so don’t take this opportunity for granted. I know it can be difficult but sir, someone was there before you. Go learn from him! I am personally giving you till February 2016 to see improvement in your governance before I admit that you are just a one chance governor and I wasted my energy, time, and data to download the “A m boo o” campaign song on my phone. Please never let me down.

Thanks so much for your time out to read this letter. I really appreciate it. Until February 2016.

Concerned Citizen,

Signed.

#News: 5 Ways The Fourth Republican Debate Changed The Presidential Race

PHOTO: Republican presidential candidates John Kasich, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina and Rand Paul take the stage during Republican presidential debate at Milwaukee Theatre, Nov. 10, 2015, in Milwaukee.
At first glance, the fourth Republican debate may not have prompted sweeping changes to the landscape of the 2016 presidential race.
But in a splintered field of 15 candidates vying for the spotlight, it’s clear that every voter, every soundbite and every percentage point matters. (Just ask Mike Huckabee and Chris Christie, who were kept off the mainstage debate by one percentage point in one poll.)
Here are five ways that this debate shifted the contours of the battle for the White House:
1.Donald Trump and Ben Carson maintain the status quo as frontrunners.
Both frontrunners faced potential pitfalls last night. Trump has been reluctant to dive into specifics of policy so far in his campaign, a potential problem in a debate that focused mainly on just that. And Carson had faced new scrutiny over questions into his past. But neither candidate had any major moments that threatened their standing at the top.
Trump was criticized when he talked about China’s currency manipulation in response to a question about Trans-Pacific Partnership.
“We might want to point out China is not part of this deal,” Rand Paul said after Trump had finished his answer.
But the real estate mogul also had a few authoritative moments, including directing traffic on stage. “You should let Jeb speak,” Trump said, even adding. “No, it’s unfair.”
At one point, Trump even seemed like a unifying figure on the stage. “We all have a different tax plan,” he started. “Some I don't totally agree with. One thing we understand, each one of those tax plans is better than the mess that we have right now.”
And Ben Carson didn’t face any detailed questions into his past during the debate.
“The fact of the matter is, what, we should vet all candidates,” Carson said. “I have no problem with being vetted,” he added. “What I do have a problem with is being lied about.”
2. Jeb Bush lives to fight another day.
After the third Republican debate, some pundits had said that Bush’s days were numbered. But a solid performance in a more policy-based, wonky debate allowed Bush to show off some of his chops.
His performance may not prompt any clear uptick in the polls, but it may have done some to calm anxious donors who are considering jumping ship.
“And even having this conversation sends a powerful signal,” he said, entering a dispute about undocumented immigrants by focusing on the general election. “They're doing high-fives in the Clinton campaign right now when they hear this."
And when Trump said that the country couldn’t continue to be the world’s policeman and should focus spending on domestic issues, Bush stepped in.
“Donald is wrong on this,” he said. “He is absolutely wrong on this. We're not going to be the world's policeman but we sure as heck better be the world's leader.”
3. Chris Christie stands out -- but does it matter?
Christie and Bobby Jindal had very different strategies going into last night’s undercard debate, and both candidates stood out. Jindal wasn’t afraid to attack the records of the other Republicans on stage with him, including the records of Christie and Mike Huckabee.
“I’ll give you a ribbon for participation and a juice box, it's about actually cutting government spending, not talking about cutting government spending,” Jindal jabbed at Christie.
But Christie took a deferential approach, aiming to appear above the fray by focusing his attacks on Hillary Clinton.
"I saw the most disgraceful thing I've seen this entire campaign a few weeks ago," he started. "Hillary Clinton was asked the enemy she is most proud of and she said Republicans."
But it’s not clear whether their performances will be enough to give them the boost they need. Much of the focus after the debate remains on the mainstage performances of the candidates who are polling higher. Still, both Huckabee and Christie missed the mainstage by only 1 percentage point in one poll, meaning that just a slight shift could send them to the mainstage next time.
4. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz continue to attract buzz.
Both Rubio and Cruz had Republicans and the media buzzing after the last GOP debate, and their performances only increased attention on their candidacies for the nomination.
Rubio, who is consistently polling double digits nationally now, still garners roughly half the support of Trump or Carson, but many see him as a plausible threat to the nomination.
“I know enough about him to know he is a gangster,” Rubio said in a response centered on Putin. “He is basically an organized crime figure that runs the country, controls a 2 trillion dollar economy and is using to build up his military in a rapid way despite the fact his economy is a disaster.”
But Cruz is also quickly on the rise, his candidacy enhanced by another strong debate, especially because the format let his rhetorical chops shine.
“The biggest lie in Washington and politics is that Republicans are party of rich,” he said. “The truth is the rich do great with big government. They get in bed with big government.”
5. Substantive format highlights strengths of some.
A more substantive debate on economic policy highlighted the strengths of some candidates like Paul. The 90-second answers allowed these candidates to focus on the content of answers instead of soundbites that come more naturally for other candidates.
“Marco, how is it conservative to add a trillion dollar expenditure for the federal government that you're not paying for?” Paul asked Rubio in a pointed debate over military spending.
But Rubio came back: “We can't even have an economy if we're not safe,” he said. “There are radical jihadists in the Middle East beheading people and crucifying Christians.”
Other candidates, like Cruz and Christie, also shone under this format.
“How do we bring back economic growth? Because economic growth, it's foundational to every other challenge we have,” Cruz started, before diving into a detailed analysis laced with statistics.
Other candidates, like Carson, struggled with detailed explanations of foreign policy in response to questions.
“Well, putting the special ops people in there is better than not having them there because they -- that's why they're called special ops, they're actually able to guide some of the other things that we're doing there,” he started in response to a question about troops in Syria and Afghanistan. “And what we have to recognize is that Putin is trying to really spread his influence throughout the Middle East,” he continued, before talking about how to make jihadists look like “losers.”

#Movie: 'Empire' season 2 episode 7 spoilers: Cookie's new love Laz looking for a bigger payoff in "True Love Never;'

It seems that Cookie has finally found love with Laz in the sophomore season of "Empire," but with her ambitions and Laz's dubious background, it's doubtful that her thing with the concert promoter will last. Meanwhile, fans will soon be able to enjoy the music of "Empire" as the season's soundtrack will be released this month.
A trailer for episode seven of "Empire" season two starts with a shot of Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Laz (Adam Rodriguez) in bed. Unfortunately for the feisty mom, not everyone is happy with her new love. Her son Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) is positively hostile to the concert promoter; and for a good reason. Viewers know that the smooth-talking Laz is sporting a tattoo similar to the men who kidnapped Hakeem. The suspicion that he might be in league with them was solidified as the short clip shows Laz getting in a car and talking to someone who demands payment for something. Laz's reply indicates that he's working on a bigger payoff.

#Relationship: Da Boomsha -“The Tale of a Man and his EX" (Must Read)

the ex files
Patrick heaved a sigh of relief as the main speaker at the business conference concluded his presentation and called for recess. He quickly navigated his way to the exit beating everybody else to it as he made a beeline for his hotel room.
“Patrick! Patrick! A familiar voice called to him stopping him in his tracks as he crossed the hotel lobby. He turned in disbelief and gaped.. It was Dupe! Same old Dupe! His campus sweetheart!  She hadn’t changed one bit.. Except for the expensive dress and jewellery she had on.. She beckoned him over to join her at the bar obviously enjoying his confusion
“Dupe, what are you doing here” He croaked. He had thought he would never see her again.. not after everything that had transpired between them. They had been the perfect campus couple.. Inseparable lovebirds.. The talk of the whole school.. Until one thing had led to another and Dupe had gotten pregnant. Patrick had panicked.. the mere thought of the public disgrace and the fear of losing the scholarship given to him by his church scholarship board almost drove him mad.

A transgender woman who was sent to a men's prison has lost an appeal against her sentence.
Tara Hudson, 26, from Bath, was jailed and placed at the all-male HMP Bristol for 12 weeks after admitting assault.
Her case prompted a campaign, backed by thousands of supporters, to get her moved.
During an appeal hearing at Bristol Crown Court, the judge asked for consideration to be made about where she serves her sentence.

The Recorder of Bristol, Llewelyn Sellick, said Hudson had a "worrying criminal record" which contained "numerous offences".
"It is for the prison service and not the court to establish where a sentence should be served," he added.
More than 140,000 people have signed petitions calling for her to be moved, with supporters claiming she has been placed in danger of sexual violence.

Transgender prison rules

The inside of HMP Norwich
  • Prisoners should be placed according to their gender "as recognised by UK law" - usually as stated on their birth certificate
  • If a person has obtained a "gender recognition certificate", they will have a new birth certificate in their "acquired gender"
  • Prisoners who obtain a gender recognition certificate while in prison "should in most cases be transferred to the estate of their acquired gender"
  • But the rules also say some transgender people will be "sufficiently advanced in the gender reassignment process" that they could be placed "in the estate of their acquired gender, even if the law does not yet recognise they are of their acquired gender"
  • Where issues arise, a "case conference" should be held to "review the prisoner's individual circumstances and make a recommendation"

Hudson has had reconstructive surgery and lived as a woman all her adult life but is still legally a man.
Last Friday, the make-up artist was jailed after she admitted headbutting a barman in Bath, causing damage to his teeth.
She has eight previous convictions including offences for battery and had hoped her punishment would be less severe.
But magistrates said the assault, which came three weeks after Hudson had been given a conditional discharge, was so serious that only custody could be justified.
She was sent to HMP Bristol, which holds around 600 men.

#Movie: 'Empire' Season 2: Episode 6 Summary Released; What Will Happen In 'A High Hope For A Low Heaven'? [VIDEO]

Hakeem and Jamal
The World Series is set to start next week, which means "Empire" won't be back until the conclusion of the series in early November. However, episode 5, "Be You," left fans with a shocking cliffhanger after the youngest Lyon, Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) was kidnapped by a group of street thugs who want Lyon Dynasty to give them money. The rest of the Lyon family will now have to put their differences aside and work together to find Hakeem in episode 6, titled "A High Hope For A Low Heaven."
The synopsis for episode 6 reveals that Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) will actually work side-by-side for once to keep the family out of danger. Jamal (Jussie Smollett) was shown trying to help the two of them in the promo video, but Lucious and Cookie want him to stay as far away from the situation as he can so he doesn't get taken too. It also appears that not only will they put their differences aside to find Hakeem, but Cookie will also help out Jamal with new music. As seen in Season 1, Cookie knows how to bring out the best in Jamal and his music. Jamal will also look to put aside the perception people have of him as a "gay artist."

#Movie: 'Empire' Season 2 Summary: Did Lucious Have A Hand In Hakeem's Kidnapping?

Hakeem

"Empire" fans were left with their jaws on the floor in the final moments of episode 5, "Be True." While going for a run, Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) was grabbed by a group of thugs who are looking to extort money out of Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) because the street believes they have money thanks to their new label, Lyon Dynasty. Showrunner Ilene Chaiken said the people behind the kidnapping might be familiar. Could it be Lucious (Terrence Howard) and his corrupt lawyer, Thirsty (Andre Royo)?

Six lessons we have learnt by Reuben Abati | @abati1990

The democratic experience in Nigeria has definitely been a continuing learning curve, and the more lessons we learn at various active centres: people, platforms and processes, the richer our democracy, the stronger the society evolves to deliver a brighter future for the sovereign. The greatest residue of our democracy in the last 16 years (1999–2015), I think, is the manner in which our community has been enriched by lessons that have practically changed our lives.

The democratic deficit is less than the gain; for us, democracy is essentially liberative and should endure. It is partly the reason why no matter the observed shortcomings of the five-month old Buhari administration, the Nigerian people remain optimistic about their belief in the viability of the democratic option. They know that they have been empowered in such a manner that succeeding governments will always be held accountable to the electorate. Thus, democracy has reframed the national dialogue and the people’s expectations.

How to Increase Your Productivity 500% by James Altucher

In this series, professionals share their secrets to being more productive. Read the posts here, then write your own (use #ProductivityHacks in the body).
I missed investing in Google. I missed investing in Foursquare. I made fun of the guy who started Lycos. I missed, I lost, I suffered, I cried. I could’ve started other businesses instead of the ones I did. I could’ve accepted job offers instead of lying in my hammock crying about failures. How much time have I wasted thinking of just nothing but crap.
Probably years.
I want to be productive, healthy, and happy. When you spend even two minutes mentally debating the worst people in your life (as I did the first two minutes after I woke up today), those two minutes add up. Throughout the day, these thoughts add up until you ask yourself at the end of the day, “What happened?” and you have no answer.
People say, “Well I played too many games. Or I gossiped too much at the water cooler.” But nobody says, “I spent too many fragmented minutes and seconds thinking thoughts of pessimism or jealousy.”
Better to not have 80% of my thoughts (or more on some days!) be “not useful.” So one practice is to label thoughts even more specifically. You pretend your brain is a giant Gmail inbox. Here are nine filters you can use to get rid of the negative thoughts.
Nine types of thoughts that will prevent you from succeeding at your business or in your job.
