OAU Leaders Threatened to be Jailed as Protest Continues

BEFORE I AM JAILED OR EVEN KILLED IN TOMMOROW'S PEACEFUL PROTEST- MY DECLARATION!

Greatest Ife! The Police have threatened to jail we your leaders if we proceed to protest tomorrow. They even threatened to teargas we the students! The question is: is this order from our Professor of 'diplomacy', the VC or the FG?

But little did they know that having at inception addressed the outrageous increment with basic democratic virtues such as diplomacy, appeal, lobbying, negotiation,a...mong others, we are more than justified in law, morality or common sense to exercise our fundamental rights of sit-ins, occupying, picketing & protest as ordained by the combined provisions of sections 39 & 40 of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2011 as amended

Accordingly, it is my humble declaration that we remain fearless & cannot be intimidated in this struggle for this is in defense of the right of the children of the poor, the downtrodden to education. Hence, dear Police, I shall prepare for my arrest tomorrow provided you will allow me come with my toothbrush & paste, pocket Bible & Quran & the Autobiography of Martin Luther Jnr.

Great Ife! We shall proceed to occupy Ife metropolis as Congress have decided while we await the outcome of the meeting between the VC & the Ooni-of-Ife said to have been scheduled for tomorrow by the High Chief Adeyeye Adekola Agoro!

Before You Abuse Our Police And Soldiers – Japheth J, Omojuwa

Author: Japheth, J. Omojuwa |Photo credit: TCD PhotographyWe miss the point a lot. We expect police officers whose salaries can barely feed our own pets to be up and doing at dilapidated rat holes called police stations. When they leave their workplaces for the barracks, they stay in some of the most demeaning housing projects you’d see anywhere in the world.

We want them to serve and protect with integrity but right from the point they are hired, we take their dignity away from them. We can pretend all we like, but the mess we see in our system is the mess we invested in it.

Channels Television got knocks from those who ought to praise it for bringing the state of the Police College Ikeja under public scrutiny. They said it was done to discredit the President, the same way anyone who points out the way to make our country better is said to do it to discredit the President.

OAU students protest tuition hike, block Ilesa-Ife Expressway

Hundreds of commuters and motorists got stuck at the Ipetumodu area on the Ilesa-Ife Expressway on Tuesday as students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State protested against the hike in fees by the management of the university.

Undergraduates as well as postgraduate students, led by the President-elect of the Students Union, Mr. Isaac Ibikunle, marched from the campus to the expressway, which links the South West to the North, and barricaded the highway with woods and tyres.

They chanted songs and refused to yield to pleas from travellers and motorists who were held down in the ensuing gridlock.

Policemen drafted to the scene pleaded with the students to open the highway, but they remained adamant. They stated that those held in the traffic would be educated on the negative effects of the action of the Federal Government in collaboration with the management of the OAU.

#OAUsaysNO--- SYCOPHANTS OF PROGRESS

“One should fight like the Devil - at least some of the time"
"Madmen have take up High places"

The atmosphere is tense and likewise people are miffed; it’s a period when the country is rocked with terrorism and the kidnap of our girls by the Boko Haram’s. We are still clothed in black mourning the Nyanya blast victims not forgetting and sympathizing with our mothers. I feel the grieve of mothers; the joys of motherhood has been overshadowed with kidnap of our girls and the crocodile tears of our Mother, her Excellency…there is God ooo.

British plane sent to search for missing school girls breaks down .. (Opens eyes)

Dont you think "Aye" is doing us in Nigeria? #Justasking ooo, because its funny to me.

A British surveillance jet which was on its way to Nigeria to help in the search for missing Chibok girls reportedly broke down in Senegal due to unspecified technical problems.

UK Ministry of Defense released a statement explaining this...

"A technical fault which has delayed the Sentinel aircraft on its way to Ghana is being investigated and will be solved as soon as possible. In the meantime the UK military team continues its work on the ground while other surveillance aircraft continue the search for the missing schoolgirls," .
British Prime Minister, David Cameron, announced that Britain would offer Nigeria a surveillance jet to help in the search of the missing girls.

Give Me Oduduwa Or Let Me Die - By Femi Fani-Kayode

In this very deep and expressive piece, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode writes about Nigeria and her current state and says its time we stop pretending and face the facts of an impending break up. Read below...

Nigerian Unemployed graduates to receive N19k monthly allowance?

That's what a committee at the on-going National Conference is suggesting...for all unemployed graduates in Nigeria to earn a monthly allowance equivalent to the allowance of members of the National Youth Service Corps, which is N19,800.

Punch reports that the conference’s Committee on Law, Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Reform made the recommendation but it can only fall through if it's accepted by the Federal Government.

A member of the committee said the recommendation was one of the ways the committee members felt that crime could be reduced in the country. He told Punch;

"The recommendation is our own way of finding solutions to the rising wave of crime in the country and to also force the government to do the needful for the increasing number of unemployed graduates in the country. We have done our part and it is left for the delegates to either reject or accept it at plenary.”
I have a feeling FG won't be interested in this. Who thinks it's a good idea?

BRIEF UPDATE ON THE INCREMENT IN FRESHERS' FEES #OAU

Having pledged that ours shall be a constructive union, we consulted various groups, interests, heard from various students' gathering we had conveyed, the leadership of the union opted for negotiation instead of confrontation; as such, we honored a second negotiation yesterday Friday 16th,2014 which started about 5:35pm at floor O.

In attendance from d student body are the CEC members, leadership of SRC, HEC chairpersons, & for transparency purpose, members of the press & independent observers were also in attendance.

Meanwhile, just as we almost succeeded in getting second concession from d management, the fear of the protesting students & some other reasons made the management postpone d negotiation until further notice.

In the meeting with the ALUMNI ASSOC, the mediating body in this negotiation by 9pm (after d negotiation broke down) it has been agreed upon

1. Negotiation will resume
2. That there should not be any protest pending the negotiation
3. That there won't be payment of the fees until after the negotiation
4. That the president should not call Congress because he has no power to do same until after swearing-in.

This meeting was presided over by Prof Adeyanju, the National secretary of Alumni Ass & two other alumni; the agreement was signed by a representative each of the CEC, SRC, ideological groups & the press at the meeting.
Great Ife, thanks for your support trust this far even despite some orchestrated misinformation. Note that I will lead the leadership of the union to some halls to give full account of this increment so far IN THE MORNING TODAY... Hope u still remember that what we promised is intellectual struggle, not physical. This battle will b won with no or little confrontation! LA LUCHA SIGUE!
Ibikunle Isaac M,
The President-Elect,
S/Union, OAU.

#‎OAUsaysNO to Fee Increment

The school Management/ Federal Government has Gone Mad again. In a very sorrowful time in our country when we are still clamouring for the release of our Girls from the shackles of the BOKO Haram's which has gotten international sympathy all over the world.

Obafemi Awolowo University has decided to wear the clothing's of BOKO Haram though not carrying arms but by trying to assassinate the FUTURE of those they term "LEADERS of TOMMORROW" by saying NO to Free Education Legacy has pushed by the Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo of blessed memory.

They have decided to push the agenda of boko Haram by saying NO to (Western) EDUCATION for the masses. Why don't they just come out and say the tax our fathers are paying is no more enough for them to have POT-BEllies(FG).

We say NO! to the Increment and Demand for the Swearing-In of our UNION LEADERS latest Friday. We might not have the Police, we might not have the army, we might not have Tear-Gas but we have our Legs to match down the path of Posterity that we Fought for a right Cause and our Hands to Carry the Placards saying "NO"!!!

Amandla Awetu!

Second Private University to go on Riot!!! #CalebUniversity

In a year, second private Uni to go on riot in Nigeria after Bowen university, This is really getting seriously... What triggers things like this? Is the students, government, school managements or just a spiritual thing? i dont understand!

There was serious riot at Caleb University, Imota Lagos this evening. Unconfirmed reports say the riot started when a Muslim student who was saying his prayers was disrupted by one of the porters in the male hostel ... plus other irregular enforced school rules and security misunderstandings. IG of police MD Abubakar Suspended.

The Inspector of Police Mohammed Abubakar has been asked to proceed on compulsory leave by president Jonathan allegedly because of the rising insecurity in the country under his watch and police under-performance under his leadership.
The Secretary to the Government, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, issued a letter signed by the president on Monday May 12th asking the IG to hand over to his immediate subordinate, Suleiman Fakai, who is the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Finance and Administration.
MD Abubakar became Inspector General of Police on January 25, 2012. His tenure was supposed to expire in July 2014, as he's due to retire July 30th 2014 based on mandatory retirement age after serving in the Nigerian Police Force for 35 years but had applied for extention of his tenure, but was turned down by the presidency.
Fakai will step in an acting capacity, until a new Inspector General is announced.

I liked Abubakar. I think he brought some sanity to the force. .It was under his leadership that police checkpoints on highways through which they extorted motorists and other road users were stopped.

...This also didn't happen in Nigeria. + Are foreign troops in Nigeria?

Some of you may have seen this photo and similar ones on several online platforms, claiming its US troops capturing a Boko Haram member....erm, it's false. U.S Pentagon has stated there will be no American troops in Nigeria...at least for now. The team sent are experts to help with communications, logistics, and intelligence. The pic above going viral is French troops in Central African Republic in 2013. (See here).

Also, you can see in all the pics floating online, from the uniforms, the African soldiers taking notes from American forces are from Uganda and Somalia. Military aid has been in Africa for sometime under AFRICOM to help train our military.

Now to the second issue; are there foreign troops in Nigeria? There are reports this morning that the Special Forces of the US Marines have sited the abducted Chibok Girls in Sambisa Forest...this report is hard to believe because the Pentagon, the UK and France made it clear that they are only providing intelligence service (intel & surveillance technology) to work with the Nigerian military..for now!

Also yesterday CNN said US intelligence made claims that the girls are not in a single location, so how come they've now been sited at Sambisa Forest? Even if US intelligence analysts were able to find the location, will they share the info with the media before the girls are rescued? So officially there are no foreign troops in Nigeria for now, except the foreign government is lying to the media about the kind of help they are providing and really sending troops.

MYSELF LENDING MY VOICE- #BringBackOurGirls

#unilever #BringBackOurGirls #sometinMustBeDone #getTowork #Terrible

Gen. Buhari writes on abducted Chibok girls, calls Boko Haram men mindless bigots

Former Head of State and chieftain of the All Progressive Congress APC, today released a statement on the missing Chibok girls. In the statement, he said Boko Haram men are mindless bigots who are not followers of God. See his statement below...

Over the past few weeks, the abduction of the school girls at Chibok, Borno State has underscored the threat we have been facing as a nation in recent times from the actions of misguided persons masquerading as adherents of Islam.

Our hearts are with families who have lost loved ones in this cycle of senseless violence. We also empathize with the parents of children whose daughters are in the custody of a group of anarchists. Continue...
That horrific video posted on the Internet is a clear manifestation of the mindlessness of the bigots. It shows them for whom they are, such men cannot threaten nor should they be allowed to violate our sovereignty. It is clear from what they profess that they are not followers of God. They do not mean well for our country and her citizens. I am a Muslim, I am versed in the teaching of Christianity and I understand both religions to seek peaceful co-existence of all humanity.

I wish to reiterate that there is no justification whatsoever for this unrestrained disregard for the sanctity of human life. It has no place in the Holy Quran and neither does it have a place in the Holy Bible.

Let these people know that the entire civilized world is united against their terrorist act. We are grateful to the world for standing by Nigeria at this trying time. We hope and pray that the young ladies will be reunited with their respective families in the days to come.

While the Federal Government and the nation’s Armed Forces are working to ensure citizens’ safety under the present situation, we believe that more could still be done to ensure the safety of Nigerians and the Nigerian nation. We are therefore glad that the Federal Government has accepted international support in the search for the missing girls and for an end to the insurgency in parts of the country.

I fought for a united Nigeria. In my old age, I want my grand children, your grand children, our youths and indeed all Nigerians to benefit from a prosperous and united country devoid of sectarian violence whether home grown or imposed on us from outside.

Now is not the time to play politics. Now is also not the time to trade blames and amplify our ideological differences. The unity of Nigeria is not negotiable and nothing should divide us as a people. I therefore urge all Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to support the country in her effort to bring an end to this attack on defencelesscitizens and indeed a united nation.

We must put aside all other considerations and ensure that our country Nigeria pulls together now so as to recover our sovereignty. After all, we all know that Nigeria is the ONLY country we have that we can call our own.
God help and bless Nigeria.

Thank you.
GENERAL MUHAMMADU BUHARI, GCFR

Nigeria’s Stolen Girls - What New York Times wrote about GEJ

Below is a New York Times editorial published yesterday May 6. Y'all need to read this. Find below..

Three weeks after their horrifying abduction in Nigeria, 276 of the more than 300 girls who were taken from a school by armed militants are still missing, possibly sold into slavery or married off. Nigerian security forces apparently do not know where the girls are and the country’s president, Goodluck Jonathan, has been shockingly slow and inept at addressing this monstrous crime. continue

DEAR PRESIDENT JONATHAN, DARE TO BE PRESIDENTIAL - By Toyosi Akerele - May 5, 2014

"Useless is a wonderful milk-yield, From a cow which kicks the pail over" - - Hadrat Muinudin Chishti
Greetings Mr. President!!!
It's become a recognizable fact that the geographical land masse hitherto known as Nigeria, often described as the giant of Africa, whether towering or lame, is almost not a Nation anymore. Ours is now a safe haven for Terrorism, a dungeon for unemployed, job seeking Nigerian Youth, a grappling economy and a hellish transportation bureau for the abduction and possible trading of our children, especially girls.

I have never been President hence I may not possess the locus standi or requisite experience to advise you on the how-to's of a Presidency. I may not know what it feels like to sit on, dine in or hand down orders to subjects from a Rock but I sure know what it means to be a beneficiary of effective governance or on the flipside, be a recipient of pangs of pain, shame and molestation of my emotions by gutless, needless strangulation of my fellow citizens, day in, day out. continues

The Tragedies of A Wasted Generation – Ogundana Rotimi

The Tragedies of A Wasted Generation – Ogundana Rotimi

Have you ever heard your teacher or lecturer saying that when he/she was in school, education was not like this; it was much more organized, well coordinated and accorded with more respect than what it seems to be today! Or have u ever heard the elderly saying “during our time things were far better than they are today”. Have you ever asked why they were so then and why they are like this now? What happened to the system? What went wrong? Have you ever tried to envisage these differences that these teachers are trying to strike out? Don’t you think there is need for its rejuvenation for prosperity sake?

Open Letter To Jagaban Tinubu; The Unsolicited Yoruba Leader – Kayode Badmus

Dear Sir,

It is with benevolence that I write you this unwarranted letter to congratulate you on your numerous achievements which indeed would make other contending leaders envious. I just read on numerous online news medium now that you decided to acquire for yourself a small private jet which costs only a little over $50million(the 2nd in the growing fleet) to make your movement laden with ease. Sir congratulations on this acquisition especially in this era when Boko Haram is quite unpredictable and might attack public carriers without prior prompting. I only hope the jet is not just bullet proof but also bomb proof, “just in case”.

#MustRead! Presidential Media Chat: Some of the things our president said

The 7th edition of the Presidential Media Chat has come to an end. A burning issue discussed is the missing school girls. President Jonathan said wherever the girls are, the military would get them. He said security personnel are working round the clock to rescue the girls and also pleaded with parents and guardians of the missing girls to cooperate with them to get the girls freed. He said no negotiation has taken place because no one or group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.
