Nigeria Government and its Terrorism

How close are we to stopping the killings in the north of Nigeria? One doubts if we have ever had it this bad with the spate of bombings. Kaduna came under fire in two successive bombings, Kano got bombed for the umpteenth time in months, Abuja is still reeling from the EMAB Plaza attack while the
Apapa attack remains a scary reality of what could happen down south if we don't commit to stopping these terrorists as soon as possible. Adamawa suffered attacks during the World Cup as a football viewing centre was attacked. The emir of Gwoza got killed while Borno gets to experience more days of attacks than it does days without them. All
of these in the three months and two weeks since the Chibok girls got kidnapped.
We continue to get assurances from the government that they have everything under control but what is clear to everyone who can see
Nigeria other than through the eyes of politics is that nothing is under control save for Boko Haram's control of the factors of fear and death.
Something has to give before we find ourselves completely run down by these insurgents the way Iraq is now battling for its territories in the hands of ISIS.
Maplecroft, a risk consultancy firm, ranked Nigeria as the number one in terms of terrorism fatality rates around the world. While 2014 is only seven months old, it is already the bloodiest year of the insurgency in five years. The insurgents are only
getting stronger as only this weekend they abducted the wife of the deputy Prime Minister of
Cameroon. That is another channel to raise money.
The group does not lack money and as long as the flow of resources to them is not stemmed, things
will only get worse. Arms supply to the insurgents should not be as secretive as it is made to look.
There have been much talk of arms flowing from the Libyan war but the possibility of direct supplies
to the insurgents by other dealers should not be overlooked. How can Nigeria and its allies – if
these allies are still there – stop the transfer of arms?
A lot has been said about the increasing attacks
and the 2015 elections. The two major political
parties are not helping the speculations suggesting
that some of the attacks have direct bearings on
the next general elections. Where each party
continues to politicize the issue, Nigeria stands no
chance of dealing with this menace. As we speak,
there is no recognizable bi-partisan approach to
the war on terror. The only approach appears to be
two political parties looking to profit politically from
the blood of Nigerians.
The masses will always be the masses. Instead of
ordinary Nigerians to ask their leaders the right
questions, they predictably are acting through to
type like specimens in the hands of politicians.
Issues continue to be debated along partisan,
religious and ethnic lines and the politicians have
more than enough ambassadors in unsuspecting
citizens who are always willing and ready to make
this about anything but a war on our country and
its people irrespective of religious, political or
ethnic orientation.
If securing a loan of $1 billion will help the federal
government fight the insurgents to a standstill, one
would suggest the National Assembly expedite
action on the process but don’t we all know
better? What has happened to the billions of
dollars already spent on the issue? If spending
more money in recent years has only made the
insurgents seem stronger and our country weaker,
when are we going to admit throwing money at the
problem will not make it disappear?
How much honour have we accorded our lost
soldiers in this war? How much have we served
those alive who continue to defend our civilization
while putting their own lives on hold and at risk?
How motivated are our men? Can an army fight a
war without motivation and dedication to the
cause? Is the army likely to be inspired by the
blame games embarked upon by the politicians or
they’d wonder if they are not just pawns in a war
that appears to be about the soul of Nigeria than
about an ideology or religion?
As the government itself continues to prioritize
politics over leadership and fighting the war on
terror, how long before the flags of the insurgents
being hoisted in Borno villages get hoisted into
other Nigerian cities? That looks far-fetched, the
very same way a Nigerian being involved in suicide
bombing was unthinkable just less than a decade
ago. This is not the time to play around, this is the
time to see the challenge for what it is: we are
under attack, even as we dance to the sounds of
2015.

Guests using toilet at posh hotel can be seen by passers-by after window design blunder

Guests using toilet at a newly opened posh hotel in Berlin can be seen from the street by passers-by after architects messed up the window design.

Several passers-by on the street below the 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin have been taking pictures of guests at the hotel as they use the toilets in their room, prompting the hotel to put up notices which read: ‘Please be careful, not only the monkeys are watching", pending when they fix the blunder

According to reports, the architect who designed the restaurant area in the 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin thought the toilets should be placed next to the floor-to-ceiling windows, despite the building being only ten storeys tall.
The hotel, which offers great views of the Berlin Zoo, unfortunately also now offers jobless pedestrians an eye-ful if they look up.

Ebola: "Stay away from Nigeria"- Australia warns citizen

Ebola virus claims more victims.
Nearly 700 people have died in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia since March in
what has been described as the most serious recorded outbreak yet of the virus.
One Liberian has also died in Nigeria, raising fears the disease could spread further
across the region. Nigeria had since set up disease isolation centres at its
international airports.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is urging Australians to avoid areas
affected by the virus and be aware they could run into trouble if they venture into
the region.
“Australians are also advised that borders in the region may be closed at short
notice to contain the outbreak,” the department said in its travel bulletin.
Those in the region should closely monitor local health advice and maintain strict
standards of hygiene.
Victims of the virus, or those suffering symptoms, should be avoided at all costs.
Ebola has a 90 percent fatality rate and can quickly kill once contracted. There is no
known vaccine or cure.
Symptoms include high fever and weakness followed by external and internal
bleeding.
Any traveller to the region showing these signs before or after visiting should seek
medical attention.

10 signs you have been in Nigeria for Long

Nigeria is a peculiar country and after living
here for long, you will come to accept and love
all its peculiarities. When you move to Nigeria, it
seems so unusual, but thrilling and alive with
opportunities. You marvel at its strange
surroundings and its people. Being Nigerian is
much more different when compared to being
Mexican or American. Several jokes abound as
to how Nigerians display their unique
differences when faced with similar challenges
alongside citizens of other countries. When
you’ve lived in Nigeria for so long, a lot about
you changes. You think different, talk different
and behave different. A foreign resident who has
the unique traits of a Nigerian may start to
wonder if he has lived in Nigeria too long.
Here are top 10 signs that you have been in
Nigeria for too long:
1. You develop a sixth sense
Nigerians can smell anything fishy, especially
when it has to do with a business deal. In the
same manner they can recognize a good deal
or an opportunity when they see one. If you try
to behave like a Nigerian when you haven’t
really learnt how to be one, you may end up
becoming the victim. Like we say “cunny man
die, cunny man bury am” and ‘cunny’ is our
way of saying ‘cunning’.
2. You become a hustler
Nigerians don’t just thrive, they hustle. At any
stage of our lives, whether we are awaiting
admission to a higher institution or just
graduating, the ‘hustle’ stays on our minds.
And just in case you’re wondering, hustle in
Nigeria refers to the innate struggle we have for
survival and the many schemes we come up
with to achieve it.
3. You are now used to Nigerian Foods
Nigerian foods are very delicious but most
foreigners find it disgusting when they arrive.
When you discover that you are now okay with
Nigerian foods, in fact you eat Pounded yam
and Efo riro like you are from Ekiti State, it
means you have stayed too long in Nigeria and
you are now a confirm ‘Naija’ person.
4. You Speak in Naija slangs
When you’ve stayed in Nigeria long enough you
learn the use of slangs. We use them often
times to make our conversations unintelligible
to people outside of your discussion circle. Kids
use them to communicate in the presence of
their parents and so on. Some include ‘para’ for
angry, ‘egunje’ for bribe, ‘gbagaun’ for
grammatical errors, ‘gbedu’ for music, etc.
5. You dress uniquely, you have falling in love
with ‘Ankara’
Staying in Nigeria for long affects your sense of
style. We have our famous ankara, adire and the
other traditional wears and most foreigners get
to the various funny but beautiful combinations.
For weddings, ‘aso ebis’ ( or parlance for
uniform dressings at a wedding) are the order of
the day and you find yourself wearing one when
you are attending a Nigerian party.
6. You get thick-skinned
Living in Nigeria over time also toughens you
up. You see, hear and experience so many
things that make you resilient and thick-skinned
to life’s hard knocks. Eventually, situations and
challenges that people struggle through become
a bit of a walk-over for you.
7. You become a go getter
Living in Nigeria is an achievement. A lot of
odds are against Nigerians yet we fight to
succeed. When you are used to waking up as
early as 4 am just because you want to get to
the office promptly, its a sign that you have
been in Nigeria too long. When your mind is set
on a goal and you work towards it until it is
realized. Being a ‘go getter’ is evident in the
spree of successful and flourishing SMEs you
see in Nigeria.
8. You know how to bargain with no shame
Anyone who has lived here for long buys things
uniquely when they’re in a market place. When
we sell, it’s also different; Nigerians can sell ice
to an Eskimo. We are good at pricing (a
Nigerian parlance for bargaining), we know how
to beat down the price of an item to the barest
minimum. We price with no shame!
9. You attend comedy shows and laugh at
Nigerian jokes
Nobody understands Nigerian jokes like
Nigerians because most jokes are cracked in
pidgin English and you can only understand the
language when you have stayed in Nigeria for
long.
10. You have a deep sense of cultural norms
and traditions
A typical Nigerian upholds certain traditional
ways of doing things. You become family
conscious and relate well with the people you
call friends. Our music is different and most
Nigerians like ‘owambe’ (partying and
celebration gatherings). There is respect for
elders and you can tell what part of the country
either by the name, appearance or accent.
Have you been in Nigeria for long? Share with
us in the comment below, your experience and
signs that indicate you have become a Nigerian.

Osun campaign: Lagbaja rejects Iyiola Omisore’s offer, blasts him...

Muiscian Lagbaja over the weekend reportedly turned down an offer by the Iyiola
Omisore Campaign Organisation to perform at the grand finale rally & reception for
Pres. Jonathan scheduled to hold in Osogbo, Osun State, next week.
According to The Nation, Lagbaja was approached to entertain supporters of Omisore,
the candidate of PDP in the up-coming governorship election in Osun State, but he
declined the offer, saying;
"Though the court of the land discharged and acquitted you (Omisore) in the
murder case against the former Minister of Justice in Nigeria, the late Cicero of
Esa-Oke & foremost nationalist, Chief Bola Ige, I have deep-rooted innermost
conviction that you are culpable in the death of my mentor and benefactor. If you
offer me all the allocation of Osun State during your four-year-tenure
peradventure you win (which I seriously doubt), I will not perform for Iyiola
Omisore governorship election.”

Woman Arrested For Calling Her Ex- Boyfriend 77,000 Times In A Week

Linda Murphy, a 28 year woman in New Mexico
was arrested by the Albuquerque Police
Department after causing what could be one of
the most extreme cases of stalking in the
country.
Murphy recently broke up with a man named
William Ryans after a three week relationship. In
the Span of ONE WEEK:
*She called her ex 77,639 times,
*Sent him 1937 emails,
*Texted him 41 229 text messages,
*Left 217 sung messages, and
*Wrote 647 letters!
The worst part is that she dedicated her time to
this by calling him, 24 hours a day, on his cell
phone, home number and at work. The woman
would have ingested large quantities of energy
drinks and amphetamines to remain awake and
would have gone sleepless for a week, calling
her ex nonstop.
“My client is profoundly relieved that Ms.
Murphy is finally behind bars” stated the
plaintiff’s lawyer, J.D. James Kiroy. “He hasn’t
been able to sleep, work or enjoy life in any
way, for more than a week. He was having a
hard time thinking clearly and was nearing
depression, it was about time the harassment
ceased. Now all we want is for Ms. Murphy to
get the medical help she needs, and for the law
to keep her away from my client.”
The accused is expected to appear in the state
court tomorrow in Albuquerque, and most
experts presume that the judge will order a
psychological evaluation of the woman to
determine if she is capable of standing trial.
Many of us have all felt a certain way after
ending a relationship, whether good or bad.
What is the worst or crazy thing you have done
to an ex after braking up? Let us know in the

PYTON STORY

"I got a call in the morning for an Indian rock python. When we reached the
spot, we saw this massive python. The python had hunted a baby blue bull and
had already eaten 80% of the bull's body. It is on the edge of an open field, so
lots of locals start gathering there." Nitish said
As people gathered, with many saying the snake should be killed as it could be a
danger to them, the snake known as the Indian Rock Python stopped swallowing the
antelope & let go of its lifeless body
"Pythons do it so that they can shed body weight and escape faster. Meanwhile,
we convinced the villagers not to kill the python and they agreed. Later we
caught the python and handed it over to the forest department officials." Nitish
said
The python was released by the officials in a nearby forest, before slithering away to
freedom. See pics of the action after the cut...

#Relationship: Life Lessons To Learn From A Failed Relationship

We all look at failure, be it in love or business, as a negative thing. But if we turn the glass around and look at it from another perspective, all these failures are essential and are the springboard to the success we have today.
image

Here are what you learn and why you should embrace them…

1. You learn more about yourself and life.
Only when you get so close to someone in a serious relationship, your true personalities really come out. Such personalities don’t come out as strongly with friends because you don’t spend as much time with them and don’t have as much of emotional expectation as you would with a serious boyfriend or girlfriend.
This really makes you learn about life in terms of people, mannerism, personality traits, core values and attitudes towards the world.
If you have a boyfriend or girlfriend who is so similar to you, then what you learn about him is like a reflection of yourself that you would normally not realize on your own.
If your boyfriend/girlfriend and you are so different, the clash and frustration also help you learn about yourself, your strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, preferences and compatibilities.
2. You learn to be a better communicator and be more expressive.
Relationships teach you to be more expressive, especially if you normally aren’t.
A relationship is made of two people. We are not mind readers. Unless you’re lucky to be dating someone whom you can see eye to eye with on most things, then you can sense what the other person is feeling or thinking. But even so, there are always things you need to communicate and explain so that the other person understands you better and you two can make it work.
A failed relationship teaches you that communication is key to understanding. And understanding is key to life.
Without communication made clear and correctly understood by both sides, arguments and agitation are likely to occur. Over and over, this results in one or both parties feeling like they are not being valued, appreciated or cared for  –  even though, sometimes it’s unintentional.
3. You discover the emotional side of yourself.
Being in a relationship and letting someone into your life take courage and strength.
Letting yourself become vulnerable emotionally can make you feel so weak that you become so strong.
It’s hard to even really discover and understand who we are  –  our passion, our strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, the way we think and our own beliefs and core values  —  let alone discovering the emotional side of ourselves.
When we’re in a relationship, we become so vulnerable emotionally that we realise what makes us feel whole, what completes us emotionally and what fulfils our self-esteem and self-confidence from the inside out. What kind of love makes you feel loved?
Everyone has a different definition and expression for love.
And if two people with different definitions and ways of expression for love come together, they can feel unfulfilled because there’s always something lost in translation between the two.
Some people show love through giving and receiving material things. To some, love equates security. Some crave affection.
Whatever love means to you, you’d only discover what it is that makes you feel loved from a partner by being in a relationship. And if you’re lucky, you only have to go through one. But for most of us, it takes several relationships to discover one that fits us most perfectly.
4. You learn the value of give and take.
Compromising can mean a lot of work especially for people growing up independently. To some, it’s second to nature especially if you grow up in a big and close-knit family.
There is chemistry  —  and there is compatibility. The two don’t always come together equally.
If chemistry is higher than compatibility level, then there’s a lot of compromise – from the way you look at the world and understand things, what you believe in, to taste in music, food and lifestyle choices.
If the compatibility is higher than chemistry, then there’s a lack of passion and boredom occurs.
In a relationship, you learn the value and the art of give-and-take. We humans are selfish, and it takes willpower to be able to give and take when the level of difference and clash is high.
When it’s too much to handle, you realize that this whole give-and-take thing is coming to an end. It’s not going to work. The compromise cannot be compromised anymore.
5. You become more empathetic.
When you love someone, their happiness affects yours  —  you want the person to be happy.
Without realizing, you start putting yourself in the other person’s shoes. You become less selfish. You try to understand him or her. You try to make it work. You become more empathetic.
Having not been in a few relationships, you would not know what it feels like to care for someone so much (besides family) that you try to understand them, rather than satisfying your own needs…
To feel the emotional intensity of transferable happiness.
When a relationship fails, it’s when empathy becomes too much to handle. You no longer try to understand the other person. Your own happiness doesn’t increase when the other person’s level of happiness increases anymore. The emotional and mental compromise for the person’s happiness start to kill you. But nonetheless, this has taught you a valuable emotional lesson.
You’ve learned what it feels like to really have your happiness correlated to the other’s happiness.
6. You learn to be patient, calm and resilient.
Relationship also teaches you to be able to control your emotions better. If your partner is hot-tempered, you learn to become calm, patient, and resilient in order to handle the flame.
If you are hot-tempered yourself, you learn to control your emotions and to pause before telling your partner off, yelling at him/her, or becoming abusive and aggressive.
Either way, the time spent in a failed relationship was not wasted. You’ve learned to control your temper, mood, and emotions  —  which is indeed a valuable skill to master in life.
7. You learn to let go.
I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.
– Marilyn Monroe
In life, you can have it all in life but “not all at once.” You have to let one thing go to let a better thing come in. You can’t dwell on the past if you want to work on the present moving towards the future.
When things don’t feel right, let it go. So that better things can fall into place.
Learning to let go is hard  —  you learn to control your thoughts, your mind, your emotions and your actions. Over and over, your mind is trained and your willpower is strong. You can let things go more easily as time comes because you’ve learned the trick to manipulate your own mind.
If you’re blaming on past relationships for the emotional baggage, don’t. Because the time spent on a failed relationship was not time wasted.
You’ve learned some valuable skills in life from every failure. Take it in. Connect the dots. And move on.

3 Customer Centric Lessons from the World Cup

And here we are with probably the hottest topic of this year, the world cup, an event that happen once every 4 years but takes more than 4 years to prepare for and its results stay in History forever!
Based on Wikipedia, the World Cup is the most widely viewed and followed sporting event in the world, exceeding even the Olympic Games; the cumulative audience of all matches of the 2006 FIFA World Cup was estimated to be 26.29 billion with an estimated 715.1 million people watching the final match, a ninth of the entire population of the planet.
In an article at Forbes about Customer-Centricity:

You have to rebuild your company’s culture, which means helping employees learn new ways of thinking and acting. GERMANY, WINNERS OF THE 2014 WORLDCUP

RIO DE JANEIRO - Immortality. Not for Lionel Messi but for a group of Germany players who have conquered the world.

For Mario Gotze - the second-half substitute who made history as he volleyed in the winner deep into extra time. For the people running German football who decided on a complete restructure of the country’s youth system when the team was humiliated 14 years ago at the European Championship.

The mission is complete. Germany has reached the finish line and nobody can dispute that it is now the best team on the planet. Germans in beer houses from Rio to Berlin can raise a glass and toast a team that won the country a fourth World Cup and a first in 24 years.

The house named after the slain former Secretary General of the Students’ Union Government, SUG, of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State is a constant reminder for the Iwilade family that they once had a son who might have been destined for greatness. Described by many as a brilliant young leader, George was the smallest among the students’ executives but certainly the most articulate. He always wore an Afro haircut and tailored Ankara buba and sokoto on his small figure.

5 lessons every startup should learn from the German football team

The day was June 29, 1998, the place was Lyon, France, and I was just an 11 year old boy watching Germany playing Croatia in the World Cup. It was the first year I showed interest in football, and I instantly fell in love with the Mannschaft (the German football team).
To be honest, I was not a big fan of the skills the German players showed, nor of their techniques, but I was a huge fan of their fighting spirit, and of how they ran across the field from the first minute till the final whistle.

Greatest Ever Semi-Final Display by Germany Tearing the Host Country Brazil

Germany tear Brazil to pieces with greatest ever semi final display. Brazil suffered the worst defeat in their footballing history as they were crushed 7-1 by Germany in the World Cup semi-final in Belo Horizonte.

As well as being Brazil’s heaviest ever defeat- eclipsing a 6-0 Copa America defeat by Uruguay in 1920 and their first competitive loss on home soil since 1975, it was also the biggest ever victory in a World cup semi final.

The home side actually started brightly, but Joachim Loew’s German outfit took the lead after just 11 minutes as Thomas Mueller, left totally unmarked at a corner, side footed home.

And barely 10minutes later Brazil’s world cup dream imploded in horrifying style as the Germans scored three times in 179 seconds, with Miroslav Klose breaking the all-time World cup scoring record before Toni kroos added two goals to make it 4-0. Sanni Khedira then made it 5-0 just before the half hour mark, giving Germany five goals in an 18-minutes spell.

After the break Brazil came out looking determined and forced two outstanding saves from Manuel Neuer- but Germany soon regained control, and Andre Schuerrle scored twice to make it 7-0.

In the dying moments Mesut Ozil blew a perfect chance to make it 8-0 and Brazil responded by darting up the other end where Oscar scored the consolation goal.

Germany will be red-hot favorites to win their first world cup as a unified nation, no matter what happens in the other semi-final between Argentina and Netherlands.

As for Brazil, wholesale changes are expected as the nation suffered its largest and most humiliating defeat ever- a night that finally expunges memories of the Maracanazo in 1950, but in the worst possible way: by worsening the pain rather than exorcising the demons.

The One-Word Answer to Why Bill Gates and Warren Buffett Have Been So Successful

When Bill Gates first met Warren Buffett, their host at dinner, Gates’ mother, asked everyone around the table to identify what they believed was the single most important factor in their success through life. Gates and Buffett gave the same one-word answer: “Focus.” (See more in The Snowball by Alice Schroeder).

Dear Manager: When An Employee Fails It's Your Fault

No matter how flat organizations are today they still have structure and with structure comes power -- and often the abuse of it. I have wanted to take this topic on for some time, because I still see too many managers and ultimately the companies that they work for blame employees for lousy performance and missed goals. But I don't think it's their fault. In nearly every company I have ever come into contact with it's managerial dysfunction that has led the employees and the organization astray.
