A transgender woman who was sent to a men's prison has lost an appeal against her sentence.

Tara Hudson, 26, from Bath, was jailed and placed at the all-male HMP Bristol for 12 weeks after admitting assault.

Her case prompted a campaign, backed by thousands of supporters, to get her moved.

During an appeal hearing at Bristol Crown Court, the judge asked for consideration to be made about where she serves her sentence.

The Recorder of Bristol, Llewelyn Sellick, said Hudson had a "worrying criminal record" which contained "numerous offences".

"It is for the prison service and not the court to establish where a sentence should be served," he added.

More than 140,000 people have signed petitions calling for her to be moved, with supporters claiming she has been placed in danger of sexual violence.

Transgender prison rules

• Prisoners should be placed according to their gender "as recognised by UK law" - usually as stated on their birth certificate
• If a person has obtained a "gender recognition certificate", they will have a new birth certificate in their "acquired gender"
• Prisoners who obtain a gender recognition certificate while in prison "should in most cases be transferred to the estate of their acquired gender"
• But the rules also say some transgender people will be "sufficiently advanced in the gender reassignment process" that they could be placed "in the estate of their acquired gender, even if the law does not yet recognise they are of their acquired gender"
• Where issues arise, a "case conference" should be held to "review the prisoner's individual circumstances and make a recommendation"

Hudson has had reconstructive surgery and lived as a woman all her adult life but is still legally a man.

Last Friday, the make-up artist was jailed after she admitted headbutting a barman in Bath, causing damage to his teeth.

She has eight previous convictions including offences for battery and had hoped her punishment would be less severe.

But magistrates said the assault, which came three weeks after Hudson had been given a conditional discharge, was so serious that only custody could be justified.

She was sent to HMP Bristol, which holds around 600 men.

It also appears that not only will they put their differences aside to find Hakeem, but Cookie will also help out Jamal with new music. As seen in Season 1, Cookie knows how to bring out the best in Jamal and his music. Jamal will also look to put aside the perception people have of him as a "gay artist."

"Empire" fans were left with their jaws on the floor in the final moments of episode 5, "Be True." While going for a run, Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) have had several set backs with their new label, Lyon Dynasty, thanks to Lucious (Terrence Howard) on Season 2 of Fox's hip-hop drama "Empire." However, Lyon Dynasty make finally catch a break in episode 5, titled "Be True," thanks to someone Cookie has been refusing to work with.

The synopsis for episdoe 5 reveals that Cookie with get some help from Anika (Grace Gealey) and a new promoter named Laz Delgado (Adam Rodriguez) to throw a block party to launch their label. Hakeem will headline the show with "a signature anthem" which he wrote all by himself. The song won't be the only new thing in Hakeem's life. At the end of episode 4, Hakeem found a new lead singer for his girl group named Laura (Jamila Velazquez), who he could get into a relationship with.

Jamal (Jussie Smollett) will be back in the studio with Lucious producing for him. However, Lucious won't be the only one in the studio with Jamal as singer Ne-Yo will guest star. The R&B singer co-wrote Jamal's previous song "No Doubt About It," which he performed with Pitbull in episode 3.

Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) has proved all season long that he always gets the last laugh on Fox's hip-hop drama, "Empire." Prosecutor Roxanne Ford (Tyra Ferrell) learned that in the most grotesque way possible in episode 4, “Poor Yorick.”

The episode begins with the FBI raiding Empire as Jamal (Jussie Smollett) records a new track. When he's done, he goes to do an interview with a Rolling Stone reporter but his assistant breaks the news to him about the raid. The FBI also shows up at Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Hakeem's (Bryshere Y. Gray) Lyon Dynasty. Thirsty (Andre Royo) wakes Lucious up at his home and tells him the FBI will be there soon. When Roxanne walks in, Lucious is naked and tells her to look anywhere she wants.

Using the right word can matter. Using the wrong word can matter even more. I once lost a potential writing gig because I used "who" instead of "whom" in a proposal letter.
