It seems that Cookie has finally found love with Laz in the sophomore season of "Empire," but with her ambitions and Laz's dubious background, it's doubtful that her thing with the concert promoter will last. Meanwhile, fans will soon be able to enjoy the music of "Empire" as the season's soundtrack will be released this month.
A trailer for episode seven of "Empire" season two starts with a shot of Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Laz (Adam Rodriguez) in bed. Unfortunately for the feisty mom, not everyone is happy with her new love. Her son Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) is positively hostile to the concert promoter; and for a good reason. Viewers know that the smooth-talking Laz is sporting a tattoo similar to the men who kidnapped Hakeem. The suspicion that he might be in league with them was solidified as the short clip shows Laz getting in a car and talking to someone who demands payment for something. Laz's reply indicates that he's working on a bigger payoff.
Fans are undoubtedly disappointed that Laz appears to be partners with Big Heavy (one of the kidnappers, especially as the chemistry between him and Cookie is palpable. "Empire" showrunner Ilene Chaiken admitted in a "Variety" interview that Cookie is in love with Laz. It's a testament to how good the alleged promoter's game is that someone as street smart as Cookie has fallen for him. But the producer also teased that what Laz is feeling might be real too, but "he's still got to do his job because it's his job."
Despite her feelings for Laz, Cookie also has her children's careers and Lyon Dynasty to contend with. A synopsis for episode seven, "True Love Never," teases that Lucious (Terrence Howard) is looking into the possibility of teaming up with Jago in his bid to make his "Empire" a worldwide name. Meanwhile, Cookie is also pushing her newfound company, Lyon Dynasty, to greater heights, starting with a big concert for charity.
With both Lucious and Cookie competing for a slice of the music industry, fans are being treated with good music every single episode. Now they listen to their favorite tunes from the series anytime they want withvolume one of "Empire's" season two soundtrack set to be released on Nov. 20.
The album will feature music from "Empire" stars Jussie Smollett (Jamal), Gray and Howard, as well as tracks from Alicia Keys and Pitbull.
Episode seven of "Empire" season two is set to be aired on Nov. 11.
