Lagos 2019: Tinubu releases official statement,  rejects Ambode and formally endorses Sanwo-Olu

APC National leader, Bola Tinubu, has released a statement officially endorsing Jide Sanwo-Olu and rejecting the incumbent governor, Akinwunmi Ambode..

In the statement released this evening, Tinubu said the blueprint of Lagos State which is his brainchild between 1999-2007, was followed through by his successor, Tunde Fashola but has now being deviated from by the incumbent governor, Akinwunmi Ambode. 

The statement comes shortly after Ambode addressed a press conference in which he made some allegation against Sanwo-Olu.

The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State on Sunday held its governorship congress at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, with former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Adebayo Adelabu, emerging the party’s governorship candidate after other contestants stepped down for him.
 
Joseph Tegbe, who was touted as Goveror Abiola Ajimobi’s choosen candidate, and other aspirants willingly stepped down from the race, except for Adeniyi Akintola (SAN) who was adamant on a full primary. But as the election began, the Akintola also withdrew from the race.
 
Adelabu is the grandson of the Ibadan notable politician, Adegoke Adelabu, popularly known as Penkelemesi (peculiar mess).

As the debate continues on who would become the APC governorship flag bearer in Lagos state, members of the State House of Assembly, have unanimously thrown their weight behind Babajide Sanwo-olu, one of the contenders for the ticket and the person rumored to have received the endorsement of the APC National leader, Bola Tinubu.

Chairman of the state House Assembly Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Adefunmilayo Tejuoso, made this known in a statement released yesterday Saturday September 29th. According to the statement, the decision was taken at a Parliamentary meeting of the lawmakers which took place at Lateef Jakande auditorium of the House. At the meeting which was presided over by the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, 36 out of the 40 lawmakers were present and they unanimously endorsed the decision and duly signed the statement announcing the decision.

Few hours after she quit the All Progressives Congress, former minister of women affairs, Aisha Jummai Alhassan, also fondly known as Mama Taraba announced she has switched to United Democratic Party(UDP).  

She made the announcement on Twitter, where she earlier today announced her resignation both from President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet and withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress.

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole said  the party’s governorship  primaries  for Imo and Lagos states have been postponed again.  

The elections which were scheduled for Sunday, have been moved till Monday, October 1st 2018. He said they were shifted for logistic reasons.

The two states are scheduled to hold direct primaries to select the governorship candidate of the party.  In Lagos, two aspirants, incumbent Akinwunmi Ambode and Babajide Sanwo-Olu are left in the race, after the third aspirant, Obafemi Hamzat withdrew for Sanwo-Olu.
